2nd Donaghadee Scout Group brings together young people to share adventure, friendship and personal development. It inspires its leaders and helpers to meet the needs of the young people in the 21st century.

Our History

2nd Donaghadee Scout Group was the brainchild of the then Minister of First Presbyterian Church, the Rev Harry Gamble. He found a campsite near the town for a visiting Scout Group from Bonnybridge in Scotland and soon fell under the spell of Scouting. Rev Gamble was so impressed with the adventure, the fellowship and the values inherent in the Scout Movement he set about establishing 2nd Donaghadee. The Cub Pack came first in 1961 and was followed closely by The Scout Troop as the Cubs reached Scout age.

In the years since then, the Group has established a record for good Scouting that is second to none. Indeed our Beaver Colony and Squirrels were amongst the first to be set up in Northern Ireland. The Group has had at least one Scout at every World Jamboree since we began and our Members have taken part in countless events and camps locally, nationally and internationally.

Our young people are encouraged always to ‘do their best’ and our Leaders ensure that a family atmosphere of friendship and fun sets the tone for all that we do. While many things have changed since the early days of Scouting one thing that has not, is the values, pride and adventure and more importantly the fellowship our young people and adults get from being part of the world wide family of Scouting.

In 2nd Donaghadee we look forward to celebrating our 45th birthday in 2006 as well as joining in the centenary celebrations in 2007.
