When? 2nd & 4th Thursdays of the month from September to April

What time? 12.15pm to 1.45pm

The Thursday Club seeks to satisfy the needs of the Senior Citizens of our congregation and their friends. Members are in the 70s, 80s, 90s age range and there is an average attendance of 30. We meet on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month from September to April, 12.15pm to 1.45pm. Members are given a little card which lists the meeting dates for the year.

Members are catered for:

  • Physically – a choice of soups or stew with bread, followed by a sweet of tarts or trifle, then tea and shortbread.
  • Spiritually – with a short topical epilogue by Rev John Linkens.
  • Intellectually – with an enjoyable and not too taxing quiz, competing within the group in tables of six. On two or three occasions during the year we invite a speaker to address the group eg a Police talk on home safety or we have entertainment from a singing group.

Ruth and Anne are the caterers and take expenses for providing the food. However, due to the generosity of the members, many of whom donate more than the requested £2, we have been able to purchase two dishwashing machines for general church use. Four or five other members of the congregation assist with the serving of the lunch.

An Annual Outing is organised to coincide with the last meeting of the Club usually just before Easter.
