When? Sunday mornings from September to June (Children's Day - 1st Sunday in June)
What time? 11.50am- 12.40pm (during morning Service)
Aim
To teach children to love and trust God; to accept Jesus as their Saviour and commit their lives to Him.
Method
The School uses work books (Come Learn or Scripture Union) and encourages the study of God’s word as found in modern translations of the bible. Other teaching aids include drawing, use of Play Dough, quizzes, drama and music while the seniors are encouraged to participate in discussions, poster making and project work.
Children present the Children’s Day programme in church and the annual Christmas Nativity Play.
They also participate in the annual Family Day Service in February.
Teacher Approach
Teachers strive to show God’s love by care and example; by taking an interest in the children and maintaining a good relationship with the parents. (Parents are kept informed of Sunday School activities by means of regular notes). The four dedicated teachers keep themselves abreast of up-to-date teaching methods.
Care for Others
Children are encouraged to care for others by participating in the pennies collection for the annual Children’s Project and by bringing Christmas Gifts for the Belfast City Mission and harvest gifts for church senior citizens.
Fun & Games
Children are taken on an annual outing – in recent years to the Fun Day at Cultra – and they enjoy their annual Christmas party with Santa and all the usual activities. They also enjoy occasional ’incentives’ in the form of Sunday sweets!
Congregational Support
The Sunday School is well supported by the congregation by interest, encouragement and financially. An annual June envelope appeal to the congregation for the benefit of the Sunday School is well received and generously returned. Children receive attendance prizes on Children’s Day at the beginning of June.
