Brief History:

The Club was formed on the 9th October 1963.  The Office-bearers elected on that evening were as follows:

President:       Rev RHG Gamble (deceased)
Chairman:      Mr David Donaldson
Treasurer:       Mr James Curragh (deceased)
Secretary:       Mr Fergus McConkey (deceased)

The following Resolutions were passed at the inaugural meeting:
  • Membership would be limited to 40
  • Tuesday evenings would be confined to male members
  • Wednesday evenings would be mixed gender, but the ladies could use the equipment that afternoon if they so desired.
  • Subscriptions were fixed at £1 for men and 10 shillings for ladies.

The Club today:

We are a mixed gender Club, presently 25 in number, noted for its friendliness and camaraderie both on and off the mat.  Only ‘friendly’ fixtures are played, in addition to Club competitions.  New members, both young and old, would be made most welcome.  Don’t worry about being a complete beginner, as suitable coaching will be given.  We all have degrees in ‘Patience’ so come along and enjoy the ‘craic’ and fellowship.

The Club meets on Tuesday evenings at 7.30p.m. the season commencing on the 3rd October 2006 and closing on the 28th March 2007 with the Annual Dinner and Prize-giving.  The yearly subscription is £7 and a further small weekly charge is made to include the cost of tea, biscuits and competition entries.
