Following the Rev. Jim Gordon's acceptance of a call to the congregations of 2nd Keady and Drumhillery in Co. Armagh and his Installation on 31st January, the Presbytery appointed Rev. Mark Welsh as our Vacancy Convenor. Mark is the Minister of Trinity Presbyterian in Greyabbey and will be responsible for the pastoral care of our congregation during the vacancy period. Should you require any further information about any aspect of our church life you can email Mark at revmwelsh@btinternet.com or Tom Johnston, Clerk of Session, at annetomj@supanet.com.
At a meeting with the Union Commission on 29th September, 2009, we were granted 'leave to call' a minister to the congregation and, following all the normal procedures, a list of eight interested candidates for our vacancy emerged. Members of Session having heard all of the candidates in their own churches and having considered detailed applications, a final list of five were invited for interview and, following interview, it was decided to invite three to preach on consecutive Sundays in February. Unfortunately one of the invitees was unable to fulfill the preaching commitment for health reasons which left two candidates and, at their meeting on 1st March, the congregation decided to issue a call to Mr Colin Anderson who was at that time the Licentiate Assistant in St John's, Newtownbreda. The Call was duly sustained by the Ards Presbytery and issued by the South Belfast Presbytery at their meetings on 2nd March and graciously accepted by Mr Anderson on the same date.
The congregation are pleased to announce that our new Minister, Rev. Colin G. Anderson was ordained and installed at a special Ards Presbytery service in the church with some 350 people in attendance on Friday, 23rd April and took up his duties as our minister with effect from 24th April. Colin and Debra moved into the manse during the following week. A new web site is in course of preparation and details will be posted in due course.
